Colorado, the Stepford state, where rose-colored glasses are handed out at birth or at the state line-if you are white, is once again polishing its shiny outdoorsy health obsessed hypocritical mountain facade that the rest of the country and world see. The Biennial of the Americas Conferences, an event to highlight regional equality and civil liberties in the Americas, has come to the racist state of Colorado. Meanwhile, the police state quietly commits terrible human and civil rights abuses against its poor and minority citizens.
With hypocrisy thick in the thin Rocky Mountain air, I thought it was time for some reality...my top 20 list of why Colorado, not Arizona, should be boycotted in the future. Businesses, college students, military personnel, Olympic athletes, vacationers, and anyone else thinking of coming to the state of corruption, take heed to this list of recent headlines and be warned.
20. An Aspen cop is given an invasion of privacy misdemeanor instead of a felony sexual exploitation when he put a video camera in his teen stepdaughter’s shower. The teen flees to California to escape the police corruption.
19. Police cruise malls and shopping centers with license plate scanning equipment conducting data base searches on all the vehicles in the parking lot. Over 100,000 private vehicles searched to date.
18. Jerry Day, a detective with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office gets in a drunken high-speed chase and points his gun at fellow officers when finally stopped. The officer is not fired, instead Day is given a ''special'' desk job. According to spokeswoman Lt. Lari Serene, obviously if it's an employee, we have a different degree of consideration. Law enforcement is very much family. Susan Greece, who reported the story for the Denver Post got it right when she wrote, “I'm frustrated by the hypocrisy of law enforcers”
17. Denver police officers Charles Porter, Luis Rivers, and Cameron Moerman assaulted a minority l6-year-old boy who was lying on the ground. The boy suffered a lacerated liver, injured kidneys and broken ribs. After a lack luster prosecution, the men were acquitted of all wrong doing by a pro-police, anti-minority jury.
16. Colorado homicide rate increases by 12 percent along with the high school drop-out rate of minority students. (See #11)
15. According to a Denver Post poll, a majority of Colorado voters support Arizona's discriminatory immigration law and want a similar law passed in Colorado.
14. ACLU protests Boulder's abusive civil liberty violating bag searches during Independence Day (Ironic). The illegal searches target minority citizens visiting public spaces in the city.
13. 1 - 28 Colorado residents are under correctional control.
12. If your teen son/daughter ever takes an inappropriate photo of themselves with their cell phone - and they all do it - they will be charged with felony creation and distribution of child pornography. Anyone receiving the photos, wanted or not, will be charged with internet sexual exploitation of a child. Colorado law enforcement has one of the largest internet/cell phone sex scams in the country. In Colorado a cell phone is considered a computer to increase the number of charges possible and mandatory sentencing. DAS prosecutes teens for these sex crimes continually in Colorado. The offending teen and friends will be lifelong registered sex offenders and will do jail time. Parents, think about this before moving to Colorado, it will happen to you or someone you know.
11. Colorado took $260 million from K12 education, firing teachers, and shortening school weeks in poor and minority districts. In the same budget, the state increased the prison budget and built a new prison and several new jails.
10. Denver Post reports an epidemic of experienced black teachers leaving the state for good.
9. University of Colorado dental professor claims 29 years of racial discrimination, but the University's white internal investigator blames the professor for making up the charges. The University dental school is found to have a long history of racial jokes circulated through the schools email by the black professor's white colleagues.
8. Colorado white supremacist Shawn Robert Adolf attempts to kill presidential nominee Barack Obama with a high powered rifle during the Democratic National Convention. White prosecutors decline to charge the man and his friends saying they were just harmless machos.
7. White Denver firefighter hangs a noose in a conference room for a black firefighter to find. Denver Fire Lt. Phil Champagne says, ''It was a prank, I don't think it was there to harass anyone.”
6. Colorado Springs parole officer leaves Scott Beecham, a homeless man just released from prison, under a bridge with an ankle monitor and tells the man that this is where he must live. The man has no bedding, blankets, or bathroom. He spends the freezing night sleeping in the dirt, on a platform he scrapped out of the ground with his fingernails like an animal.
5. Pueblo deputies Mark Myers and Randy Mondragon tase a l0-year old mentally disabled boy because he wouldn't come out of his hiding spot. The tasing was ruled justified by their boss.
4. Denver cop shoots and kills a developmentally disabled teen, the officer was acquitted and given a short suspension.
3. Fort Collins officer Jim Brodrick stalked Tim Masters for years before finally fabricating enough evidence to convict Masters of a terrible murder - Masters was only 15 years old at the time of the murder. After 10 years in prison Masters is exonerated by DNA evidence. It was widely known in the state's justice system that Brodrick, and DAs Terry Gilmore and Jolene Blair had hid evidence during the trial that would have ruled out Masters as a suspect. All three used the highly publicized trial to launch their careers, Gilmore and Blair become judges despite their illegal and corrupt activities. Brodrick was cleared twice by ''special prosecutors'' to include Senate hopeful Ken Buck, who ignored evidence of Brodrick’s, Gilmores, and Blair's crime and cleared them of all wrong doing. Only when Buck started a run for the Senate and couldn't ignore the corruption anymore, did Brodrick get charged. The criminal judges are untouchable in corrupt Colorado. One lawyer said, ''That a cop (in Colorado) lied isn't what's unusual. What’s unique is that they finally charged a cop for doing it.”
2. Through gentrification and district gerrymandering, the legislature is likely to have no black lawmakers and only a handful of Hispanics in next years session. If state demographics were represented equally, there would be five black and 20 Hispanic representatives in the Senate alone. A spokesman for the state said the lack of diversity was not an issue in Colorado because whites are good at looking out for overtones interests.
1. Marvin Booker, a black 54 year old homeless street pastor, is tased to death in a Denver jail when he went to retrieve his shoes during processing for possession of drug paraphernalia. Booker’s lifeless body was thrown into a holding cell while white deputies high-lived each other. (Now read #2 again)
So remember this list the next time you read about how in shape, outdoors, and enlightened Colorado is, or the next time you plan a vacation or conference. Businesses, look at your employees and decide which one of the 28 is going to prison. Recently an engineer with a master's from Stanford served two years in prison for driving his BMW too fast - it was his first offense, he was a Marine Corps vet, there was no crash, no injuries, no property damage, no victims...just driving fast late at night. The police state regularly sentence victimless non-violent offenders to life in prison ... yes
Life ... just because they can.
Parents, look in your child’s classroom, which one of 28 students will be in juvenile prison by the end of the year...maybe it will be your child.
Vacationers look how things turned out for Kobe and Sheen, do you have millions to spend on your defense? Your vacation could turn into a long stay.
Countries of the Americas, the next time the U.S. lectures about human rights, equality, and civil liberties, ask them about the racists human rights abusing, civil liberty taking police state of Colorado … then hold the next Biennial Conference in another country.
